Hi Mike:
We were probably enjoying the Battle Lobster dinner at Charles Nob Hill on the same night. Glad you found my FoodGal blog. And hope you enjoy all the future posts to come. Happy eating, and happy reading!

man.. has it been 10 years already...? i remember that we ate the iron chef menu at charles nob hill after he came back. i think he added a chocolate souffle as a dessert. man that was good. i think the salad was the best, followed closely by the fois gras. everything else was really good as well. hey carolyn... glad i found your blog. i was wondering what you were going to do after the mercury. it's not the same anymore without two of the main writers. take care

Wow!!! I am so envious, Mrs. L. You were there in the moment. You can't ask for more excitement than that. One of the Merc's freelancers happened to be in Tokyo then, and got to see the challenge "live.'' Yoshi was kind enough to bring me back an "Iron Chef'' oven mitt. I've never dared to use it. I have it hanging in honor in my home-office instead. ;)

I happened to be in Tokyo ten years ago (for a Sharks game no less!) when Ron won the Iron Chef. I remember being in my hotel room just celebrating like crazy (since it wasn't going to be shown in the US for months). His winning and me being able to watch it on Japanese TV was one of the highlights of my trip. I searched all over for an Iron Chef t-shirt back then in Japan to no avail!
