Much Ado About Madeleines

A holiday box of buttery, chic madeleines.

If you’re too swamped to bake this holiday season, the next best thing to homemade might just be Donsuemor Madeleines.

Namesakes Don and Sue Morris have been making traditional madeleines in the East Bay since 1976. Their elegant, scalloped-edged, cakey, buttery cookies are crispy along the edges, and soft and tender in the centers.

  • funny, the NYT mentioned Donsuemor Madelines and then when I went to the Starbucks in Stonridge Mall they had them. A pack of 3 madelines was $2.65.

  • I just ordered two boxes of these – one for my daughter, who adores Madeleines. And one for me to serve when friends drop in for tea. I’m not a fan of the Madeleine, but I’ll bet these will turn me into a convert.

  • I think these will sway you to the Madeleine side. They did for me. I, too, did not think Madeleines my favorite cookie before this. But after trying these, I defiinitely see what the fuss is all about.

  • These things look so simple but are SO difficult to pull off. I wonder what the secret is for getting that crisp/tender texture.
