Orange Krispys and Winners of Food Gal Contest Announced

A new See’s Candies confection has rolled into town just in time for autumn.
Orange Krispys can be found online or at any See’s store. An 8-ounce box of individually wrapped chocolates is $7.80
I’ll use my patented scale of 1 to 10 lip-smackers, with 1 being the “Bleh, save your money” far end of the spectrum; 5 being the “I’m not sure I’d buy it, but if it was just there, I might nibble some” middle-of-the-road response; and 10 being the “My gawd, I could die now and never be happier, because this is the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth” supreme ranking.

See’s Orange Krispys: Squares of airy, crisp honeycombs flavored with orange are enrobed in dark chocolate, then wrapped up in shiny orange foil bags. They’re a fun little treat for fall or even Halloween. The bright citrus flavor is lollipop-sweet. I wish it had a little bit more orange rind flavor to lend a slightly more bitter edge. Five pieces equal 190 calories. Rating: 6 lip-smackers.

Speaking of chocolate, there sure are a lot of you who can’t get enough of the stuff. Nearly 40 of you entered the Food Gal milk chocolate contest with the Amano Artisan Chocolate prize of two milk chocolate bars and one dark chocolate one.
So many of you had such wonderful responses to the statement, “Milk chocolate is…,” that it was hard to pick just one winner. So hard, in fact, that I’m adding two prizes. First place still gets the Amano chocolates. But I’ve added second-place and third-place winners, who will each receive a cookbook from my vast collection.
Without further adieu, here are the winners:
Third Place: Carroll, who wrote, “Milk chocolate is an essential part of the USDA approved food pyramid and should be eaten daily. It comes from beans. They grow on trees. Clearly it is in the fruit/vegetable food group. I rest my case.”
Second Place: Nat, who wrote, “Milk Chocolate is what I really buy when I go to the store to ‘pick up some milk.’ ”
First Place: Sandy, who wrote, “Milk chocolate is my food version of ‘The Hills.’ ”
To collect your prizes: Please send me an email (you’ll find the link on the right rail of the homepage) with your full name and address, and the words, “Chocolate Winner” in the guide area. Thank you again to all who participated.

Would milk chocolate and an Orange Krispy constitute a balanced breakfast?

Wowza! What a way to start this soon-to-be rainy (soup season, YAY!) Monday morning. Thank you (times a million!) Carolyn!!
And even though those Sees orange crispers only rated 6 lip smackers in your opinion, I’m sure they will be just the treat to have ready in the guest bed-side candy bowl for my Sabra loving friend from New Zealand who will be here in a couple of weeks. Tell the good folks at Sees you made at least one sale for them!

Typically orange and chocolate are a nice combo. Maybe they’re worth a try…

Congrats, Carol! Nicely done, Nat! Super job, Sandy! Next to a telegram from Oslo, betcha couldn’t receive a much more important message! (Notice you’ve won stuff’s gotta be lip smacker 9 minimum).
Thanks to Food Gal for providing another fun-filled contest! Hafta add, however, it’d be appreciated if she’d answer Moe R’s question whether M.Choc. and O.Krispy constitute a balanced breakfast or not. Wannabe chomper-downers wanna know … ‘

Hey there!
I’ve been a big fan of See’s orange crisps since I was a kid! They were readily available until a few years ago when they disappeared, so it looks like they’re bringing them back, if only for a short time. Tasty!

Moe: That sounds like a good breakfast to me. You have milk for strong bones. And you have your Vitamin C for guarding against all those nasty winter colds. So yes, milk chocolate and and Orange Krispies would definitely be the breakfast of champions in my book.

Tried to order Orange Krispys on See’s Candies website. Not offered.

Robert: They might not be available anymore, as I know they came out in time for Halloween, and it’s now on to the Christmas offerings.

I believe they sold out even before Halloween. I tried to get some at my local Sees and was told that because of the economy they were only producing very limited quantities of the special seasonal items this year so. Fewer people buying candy? Unthinkable!
