New Tart Fro-Yo — To Stash in Your Own Freezer

Tart frozen yogurt to tempt your palate.

I am a Pinkberry and Red Mango fiend.

I find tart frozen yogurt rather addicting. I just wish I didn’t always have to make a special trip for it.

Now, I don’t.

Thanks to new Haagen-Dazs’ Tart Natural Frozen Yogurt (samples of which recently landed on my doorstep), I can have it handy in my own freezer for those times I need a tangy fix. (And yes, that kind of easy accessibility can be both a good thing and a bad thing, if you know what I mean.)

With active yogurt cultures, this new flavor has has all the tart, refreshing, fermented taste of plain yogurt, but in a creamy, smooth, rich-bodied version. Although it doesn’t have the same airy, soft-serve texture as that at fro-yo chains, it’s still plenty satisfying with a flavor reminiscent of creme fraiche ice cream.

A 1/2-cup serving has 180 calories, 2.5 grams of fat (1 gram of saturated), 21 grams of sugar, 30 grams of total carbohydrates, and 9 grams of protein.

Look for it in stores near you.

  • I think I am the only one that has not hopped on this trend. I guess I love my sweetened and flavored ice creams too much.

  • I agree about the special trip for Pinkberry (and you are way closer than I am 🙂 But, I have solved the problem of being able to have it in my freezer – about once a month I usually manage to get up to Santana Row along with a cooler and my cold packs. Along with them packing it in ice – it makes the hour and a half drive back to my house without a problem, and it actually doesn’t get hard like other soft serves do.
So, until I win the lottery and can get a pinkberry installed in my house, this makes do, and the something about the Pinkberry yogurt cultures does wonders for my Crohn’s disease. So, if you really want your Pinkberry at home, you can always bring some home! 🙂

  • I will have to look for this…I LOVE pinkberry–it is one of the main reasons we’re considering moving to LA! If only one would open in SF. Oh well in the meantime, I shall give this a try.

  • Wow, for real? I’m quite anxious to try it!

  • It’s great that you get FREE stuff delivered to your home. Very jealous! I’ll look for it at my local Lucky’s store which is closest to me.

  • This sounds good. I have been waiting for a good, tart frozen yogurt. But you are right, having it right in my freezer could very easily turn into a not so good thing… 😉

  • ooh, well I can’t complain since this is low fat and good for you! I’ll be looking for that in the freezer section!

  • Jen93940: Wow, that’s some Pinkberry love to make a trip like that just to snag some. Good to know that the Pinkberry swirl doesn’t get rock hard once you store it in the freezer, too.

Wow. You are on the best mailing lists! All I get is spam.

  • Mmmmm, tart fro yo. I love the new trend. Fraiche in Palo Alto is so good, I now make myself walk the 50 minutes it takes to get there and back, hoping I can burn off the calories I’m about to consume. Fitness experts, please don’t tell me I’m wrong in my calories in/calories out equation, I won’t be able to bear it.

I made some frozen yogurt in my ice cream maker one rainy day, since a long walk was out of the question – just some Fage low-fat yogurt, a little milk and agave nectar. It was fantastic when freshly made, but after being in the freezer overnight it was unbelievable hard, and melted into a puddle before it softened. What is their secret?

So I’m glad to have another way to satisfy the craving, and will definitely try the Haagen Dazs, but I’m still going to experiment to see what I can come up with…it can’t be that hard, right?

  • I agree- the tart yogurt is oddly addicting. I didn’t think I’d like it at first, but I think I prefer it.

  • Yummie, have to try it! Thanks for letting us know :-), I love pinkberry, the original flavor!

  • Question is: is it cheap? I wouldn’t mind making special trips to REd Mango, but I just can’t handle the exorbitant price.

  • Hmmm – we have the HD frozen yoghurt in just a couple of flavours here in Canada but not the tart one. I hope it comes here soon!

  • Haagen-Dazs are such great products! You are sure to never be disapointed by them 🙂

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

  • Cripes looks good, just another thing to get me in trouble.

  • I’ve been wanting to try Pinkberry or Red Mango every since I read about them on The Single Guys blog. Must pick this up and give it a try.
