Celebrate Spring at San Francisco’s Ferry Plaza Farmers Market
As if you needed any more reasons to visit one of the best farmers markets in the country, March is full of delicious events at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market in San Francisco.
The bustling market at the historic Ferry Building, just steps from the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, welcomes spring’s mother lode of fava beans, peas and asparagus with a series of cooking demos by local chefs.
Come watch, taste and learn at these free cooking events at the outdoor teaching kitchen under the north arcade:
11 a.m. March 6: Cooking demo with Joe Hargrove of Tacolicious in San Francisco.
12:30 p.m. March 9: Cooking demo and book-signing with Daisy Martinez, star of PBS’ “Daisy Cooks!” and the Food Network’s “Viva Daisy!” She’s also the author of the new cookbook, “Daisy: Morning, Noon and Night” (Atria).
11 a.m. March 13: Cooking demo and book-signing with Mike Kalanty, baking instructor at the California Culinary Academy and author of “How to Bake Bread” (Real Seal Books).
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 20: Asparagus Celebration. Freshly made, open-faced grilled asparagus sandwiches with fresh goat cheese on Acme bread will be offered for only a $1 donation to CUESA, the Center for Urban Education and Sustainable Agriculture, which runs the farmers market. Learn how asparagus is grown and picked, and take home recipes from cooking demos past.
11 a.m. March 27: Cooking demo and book-signing with Lorna Sass, author of “Whole Grains Every Day Every Way” (Clarkson Potter). Steve Sando of Rancho Gordo heirloom bean company will make a special appearance.
11:45 a.m. March 27: Cooking demo by Chef Dominique Crenn of Luce Restaurant in San Francisco and a former contestant on “The Next Iron Chef.”
Way to go to make a girl jealous! I had SUCH a wonderful few hours at the farmers’ market when I was in SFO for the Foodbuzz Festival in November. I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the spring!
We are indeed fortunate to have the Ferry Building so close by and to take advantage of all the wonderful food offered. As usual your write up has me craving more hours in the day to take advantage of all the yummy activities you identify.

Going to farmers markets might just be my most favorite thing to do when I’m on vacation cos we don’t have them here in Singapore. It’s one of the things I miss most about L.A…..
But I’m excited now because I’m going to be in San Fran sometime April, so this is definitely going on the list of to-do’s =)

AH!! I missed this place the last time I was in SF…and I’ll be in SF from the 14-17…and I’ll STILL be missing these cool events! Oh, the tragedy! T__T
The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market really is one of the best farmers markets on earth. But I didn’t know they had events like this! You are lucky to live close enough to go every weekend! Plus then you’ve got Recchiuti right there! Man I’m jealous!
