Just in Time for Valentine’s Day — A Sweet Food Gal Giveaway

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s never too early to contemplate sweet gifts for your sweetie.

Divine Delights, a small family bakery in San Rafael, has got you covered.

The company — which has been touted in the New York Times, Gourmet and Bon Appetit — offers a full line of cookies, cakes, tarts, and petits fours.

Among its offerings for Valentine’s Day, are red heart-shaped boxes filled with signature petits fours — miniature almond butter cake layered with truffle cream, fruit fillings or buttercream, then enrobed in chocolate, and decorated with hearts and roses.

One lucky Food Gal reader will win one of the small Valentine heart boxes of petits fours (pictured above; a $37.95 value). It will be delivered to you just before Valentine’s Day. You can give it to someone you love — or just hoard it all to yourself. I won’t tell; I promise.

Contest: Deadline to enter is midnight PST Feb. 5. Winner will be announced Feb. 7. Contest is open only to those in the continental United States.

How to win?

Just tell me about the most memorable Valentine’s Day gift you’ve ever received. Best anecdote wins.

Here’s my own answer to that question:

“Since getting married, my husband and I no longer buy each other gifts except for our birthdays and Christmas. We’ll mark other occasions with cards to one another, though. One Valentine’s Day, my husband didn’t have time to run out to the store to buy one. Instead, he made a card by printing out a photo of George Clooney that he had found online, since he knows I have a thang for the Cloon-ster. On the card, in bright red letters, he printed the words, “My husband wanted me to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day! Love, George.” I still have it tacked to my bulletin board in my home office and to this day, it still makes me laugh. You gotta love a guy who will put another guy’s face on a Valentine’s Day card just because he knows it will make his wife will smile.”

Winner of the Last Contest: In last week’s Food Gal contest, I asked you to reveal what foodstuff was your secret, guilty habit. The winner will receive a $100 gift card to use at any CSN online store.

Congrats to Allison, who wrote, “Gummy Bears are like my version of crack. Not just any old crack will do…it has to be Haribo gummy bears AND they have to be from Europe. There is a HUGE difference between US tasteless Haribo gummies and sweet and fruity European versions. I recently came back from Amsterdam with over 10 lbs of gummies smuggled in my suitcase. We know it was 10 lbs because our luggage was over the weight limit and we had to remove them and carry them on or pay some ridiculous fee. It was slightly embarrassing removing bag after bag of gummies from our suitcase in front of an audience, but TOTALLY worth it.”
