It’s all to celebrate the 40th anniversary ofย  the landmark Berkeley restaurant.

Proceeds from the sale of the all-organic T’s will benefit the Edible Schoolyard Project, the organization that Chez Panisse founder Alice Waters established to integrate kitchen and garden education into grade-school curriculum. The T’s feature designs by such celebs as Waters, herself, as well as Sofia Coppola, David Byrne, Dave Eggers and Maira Kalman. Beginning Aug. 24, the shirts also will be available in select Levi’s stores around the country and online at

The suggested donation for each lunch box is $5, with proceeds going to the Edible Schoolyard.

Waters also will be on hand to sign copies of her new book, “40 Years of Chez Panisse, The Power and Gathering”“40 Years of Chez Panisse, The Power and Gathering” (Clarkson Potter).

Treasure Island Flea Market

On the last Saturday and Sunday of the month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., historic Treasure Island in San Francisco transforms into a bustling flea market complete with food vendors.

Visit the upcoming open-air marketplace, Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, to check out antiques, plants, flowers, indie designs and home decor specialties. Food vendors also will be on hand, selling everything from French galettes to pork belly BLTs to award-winning California wines.

Many of the vendors used to sell at brick-and-mortar stores until the economy tanked. The flea market gives them an opportunity to continue to sell their wares to customers hungry for unique items.
