Party Hardy at “Best of the Bay” with A Food Gal Discount

San Francisco magazine will celebrate its 12th anniversary with a major bash, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. June 28.

Get ready to nosh, sip and shimmy at its annual “Best of the Bay” party at City View at the Metreon in San Francisco.

More than 40 restaurants will be dishing up gourmet eats, including Central Kitchen, 1300 on Fillmore, Wo Hing General Store and Waterbar. Participating wineries include Ceja Vineyards and Envolve. DJs and bands will play as you can dance the night away.

The event is a benefit for Family House, which provides a home away from home for families with children undergoing cancer treatment at UCSF Children’s Hospital.

General admission tickets are $100; VIP tickets are $175 (which gives you access to the party one hour early, plus entrance into the VIP lounge and cigarillo bar, and a digital swag bag). Presidio Social Club Celebrates Father’s Day with A Grand Pig Roast

Treat dear ol’ Dad to a most memorable barbecue dinner at Presidio Social Club in San Francisco.

On Father’s Day, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 17, the restaurant will host its sixth annual “Pig Roast Soiree.” Not one, but two Yosemite Valley pigs will be roasted on the back patio in Caja China box grills.

Enjoy live reggae music, along with $1 pork sliders, as well as discounted mai tais, beers and wines. For $28 per person, indulge in the “Pig Roast Sunday Supper,” which includes salad, a platter of roast pork, seasonal fixings, and sorbet for dessert.

Come by early at 3 p.m. to watch Chef Ray Tang instruct you on how to carve a pig, in case you get the urge to roast a whole beast in your own backyard.

If you come dressed in retro Hawaiian garb, you just might get that chance. Enter the “Aloha Costume Contest” that day. If your photo gets the most “likes” on the restaurant’s Facebook page, you will win a pig roast at your own home (so long as it’s in San Francisco or within 10 miles of the city).

If you can’t make it to this porky fest on Father’s Day, no worries. The restaurant will be continuing its “Pig Roast Sunday Supper” every Sunday through October.

Winner of Tickets to the Bay Area BBQ Championship

In last week’s Food Gal contest, I asked you to tell me about one of your favorite times that involved grilling or barbecuing. Best answer will win two VIP tickets to the Bay Area BBQ Championship on July 7 at the Oakland Coliseum. Mrs. L, who wrote, “When I was younger, my girlfriend and I went to the Bay Bridge series with some friends and friends of friends. Many of us crammed into a couple of RV’s and then tailgated before the game. After an awesome meal of BBQ chicken and some potato salad that the two of us had contributed (notice I didn’t say made), my girlfriend and I had a brownie from the plate that was sitting on the table. Once we finished our first brownie, we dove in for a second one (ahem, back then food didn’t seem to land on the hips). At that time someone mentioned that we should be careful because they were ‘pot’ brownies. But it was April 1st, so we figured that was just an April Fool’s joke and we each proceeded to finish off our second brownie and eventually head in to watch the game.
Lets just say we were lucky that we had some friends to watch over us, make sure that we were okay, find us our seats (because by then I couldn’t find my way out of a paper bag) and made sure we got home okay. Pretty much the only thing I remember of that entire game were the dot races (do they still have them) and thinking they were the best thing since sliced bread.
I wouldn’t eat brownies at pot lucks (no pun intended) or BBQ’s for years…”
