Cheer on the 49ers with a “Kaepernicking” Cocktail

Oh, yes, you can. And it’s available at Ame at the St. Regis in San Francisco through Feb. 3.

The $14 cocktail is named for the team’s star quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, of course.

The “Kaepernicking,” available in the Lobby Bar, is appropriately gold colored with a rim of red. It’s made with El Jimador Reposado Tequila, Fees Lemon Bitters, orange slices, lemon juice, and a dash of Hefeweizen-style beer. The glass is rimmed in li hing mu powder (pulverized salty dried plum that’s sold at Asian and Hawaiian markets).

If you want to make your own, here’s the recipe:

The Kaepernicking Cocktail

(serves 1)

2 ounces El Jimador Reposado Tequila

½ ounce simple syrup

2 orange slices

Squeeze of lemon juice

Dash of Fees Lemon Bitters

Li Hing Mu Powder (Salty dried plum found in Asian and Hawaiian markets)

Splash of Hefeweize- style beer

Muddle orange slices with simple syrup, lemon juice and bitters in a mixing glass. Add tequila, shake vigorously. Strain into a Li Hing Mui powder-rimmed bucket glass. Top with a splash of Weihenstephaner beer or any hefeweizen-style. Enjoy!

Eat Like Vernon Davis

No. 85, Vernon Davis, has been known to have a thing for the green beans at Oryza Bistro Asiana inside Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara.

In fact, yours truly, has even spotted the 49ers tight end dining at that restaurant.

No doubt the TVs at the bar there will be tuned into the game. So try the spicy green beans with garlic, ginger and shrimp paste ($9), yourself, while catching all the action.

If you’d rather watch in the comfort of your own home, Oryza also offers to-go, party-size platters of its garlic pepper wings, spicy bbq ribs, mango slaw and sweet potato fries.

SusieCakes’ Football-Themed Sweets

All four Bay Area SusieCakes bakeries are celebrating the 49ers making it to the Super Bowl with fun Niners’-themed cookies and cupcakes ($4 each).

Custom 49ers-themed cakes are available with advance notice, priced at $53 for a six-inch cake and $66 for a nine–inch one.

Customers who purchase a 49ers treat through Feb. 1 will be entered into a drawing to win free treats for their own Super Bowl party. The winner will be chosen Feb. 1 for pickup on Feb. 3.

Attention any Niners players (past or present) not currently in New Orleans: If you visit SusieCakes, the bakery will donate $100 to the San Francisco 49ers Foundation. How sweet is that?
