I am not a soda gal.

Too sweet and too many unnecessary calories for me.

When I want to quench my thirst in summer, I reach for a glass of iced tea instead.

I don’t add any extra honey, sugar or artificial sweeteners, either. I like the tannic nature it has all on its own. If I really want to get fancy, I’ll muddle some fresh fruit, mint leaves or even cucumber slices in it.

That’s exactly what I did when Mighty Leaf Tea sent me some samples to try recently. Its over-sized tea bags make it easy to brew a big pitcher of iced tea in minutes. I steeped a bag of Ginger Peach Iced Tea for 5 minutes, then added some ice cubes to chill it down. Since I’d just come back from the farmer’s market, I sliced up some nectarines and added them to the iced tea for a pretty — and pretty delicious — gulp on a warm day.

  • I love Ginger Peach iced tea, and to give it more “snap.” I simply add a couple of slices (~ 1/4″ thick and cut through a knuckle of the ginger)) of fresh ginger and half a cinnamon stick. However, there is a process. I add the cinnamon when first brewing the tea, then after the tea has steeped, I remove the cinnamon stick, add the ginger and the ice. Cooked Ginger can be a bit strong. Of course, nothing is better than cutting a round slice of peach and adding it to the glass when serving.

  • My favorite iced tea lately is green tea with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice…it tastes bright and refreshing!

  • I only drink iced tea too, and not just in the summer! I actually make more of a sweetened tea, where I use my favorite black tea blends, and then add sugar (not a lot though) and keep it in my refrigerator all week. I don’t add ice cubes since it’s in my refrigerator, then way I don’t get any water-downed tea.

  • I drink iced tea all year long. I keep a pitcher at home and a pitcher at work. No sugar for me, either. Lately I mix about 5 or 6 black tea bags, 3 green tea bags and one peppermint tea bag. It’s just right. My only side effect is lots of tea staining on the backs of my lower teeth. My hygenist mentions my iced tea addiction every time I go!

  • I am like you, I do not add any sugar to my tea and lately I have been drinking barley tea…so refreshing!

  • I also drink my tea without sugar. I go out to our herb garden and pick fresh mint and lemon balm add that to the tea with just a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Add ice cubes and you will want more than one glass of this refreshing tea!!

  • I make regular black tea, then in a separate container, I make a citrus syrup (lemon, lime, sometimes peach or grapefruit), and add that to individual servings! A piece of fresh mint and I’m off to the deck to enjoy the day!

  • I love ice tea of all kinds! I steep two pots of tea. The first pot is poured into ice cube trays to freeze. The second pot is refrigerated. To add zing, i crush fruit or add slices of lemon to the refrigerated pot right before serving. To serve, i pour the refrigerated tea over the frozen tea cubes in a glass and add fruit for garnish. For those that like a sweetened tea, i make a simple syrup or use honey and stir it in. 🙂

  • I love making ice tea. I make plain tea and then mix 1teaspoon of simple syrup, two crushed raspberries, 1/2 cup of cranberry juice, 1/2 cup of sparking water and 1cup of tea over crushed ice

  • I love hibiscus tea with lemonade. It is so refreshing. Add mint for more flavor!

    Sweet Tea is my favorite, but Sweet Lime Iced Tea is refreshing as well –
    1 gallon boiling water
    6 black tea bags
    1 1/2 cups white sugar
    4 limes, juiced
