Dessert Tasting Menu, Food Trucks to Gather at Valley Fair & More

The Fifth Floor’s Dessert Tasting Menu

For those of you who favor the sweet over the savory, you can’t miss the new dessert tasting menu featured at the Fifth Floor in San Francisco through the end of summer.

Executive Pastry Chef Francis Ang offers up a four-course tasting menu for $35 per person (or with wine pairings for $60 per person).

You’ll swoon over strawberry eucalyptus mochi with frozen guava; “Figs and Sourdough” with goat cheese, honey air and argan emulstion; black cardamom beignet with peach marmalade, coffee and caramel; and blueberry souffle with corn tea anglaise and candied blueberries.

Enjoy the sweet menu in the dining room or at the bar. It’s available Tuesday through Saturdays from 5:30 p.m. until closing.

Westfield Valley Fair Shopping Center to Host Food Trucks

While construction goes on at Westfield Valley Fair Shopping Center, the Santa Clara mall will play host to four food trucks from now through November.

The shopping center is in the midst of adding an upscale Dining Terrace and Luxury Collection of stores. To make sure customers don’t go hungry in the meantime, the center will host a Moveable Feast of four rotating food trucks every Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The trucks will be located directly outside of Center Court. on the south side of the shopping center. If you walk out of the mall past Kiehl’s and MAC, you’ll find the trucks parked right there.

Outdoor seating will be provided, too, so you can nosh without standing up the whole time.

Additionally, on Friday nights, there will be a pop-up bar with live entertainment, in addition to the food trucks, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Lucky Rice Festival Coming to San Francisco

Lucky Rice Festival, which has already been held in New York, Los Angeles, Los Vegas and Miami, is coming to San Francisco, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 6

Lucky Rice is a celebration of the cultures and flavors of Asia. Held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco, it will feature a street food night market, mixologists and a slew of top chefs.

Among the Bay Area chefs who will be participating are: James Syhabout of Commis and Hawker Fare; Wilfred Pacio of Spice Kit; Alexander Ong, formerly of Betelnut; Kathy Fang of House of Nanking; and Sharon Nahm of E&O Kitchen.

Chef Masaharu Morimoto of Morimoto Napa will be a special guest.

Tickets are $88 for general admission and $125 for VIP access (with access to the VIP Chefs Lounge).
