After doing so many giveaways on this blog, I’d be remiss not to do one for my own new cookbook, “San Francisco Chef’s Table” (Lyons Press), wouldn’t I?

So, here’s your chance to win a copy of the book that I will autograph to you or to whomever you please.

The cookbook is a tantalizing compilation of 54 restaurants and 79 recipes from the food-centric San Francisco Bay Area.

You’ll find everything from trendy new places to landmark establishments — along with dishes that exemplify their individual spirit and unique cuisine.

Each restaurant entry is illustrated by gorgeous photos, too, by award-winning photographer Craig Lee.

I’ve been having a ball hosting cooking demos and signing events with some of the featured chefs, and look forward to many more in the new year to come.

Derrick, who wrote, “Having been allergic to seafood most of my life, I have always been envious watching friends and families rave about the sweetness of fresh shrimp or the succulence of a lobster claw. As they make a mess of their fingers and faces, they would remind me that I’m ‘missing out on the good stuff in life’ and other unsettling sayings of ‘more for us then’, ‘maybe one day you can join us’. Well that one day came a couple years ago. Every year, with medicine in hand, I try a little bite of someone else’s crab, or shrimp in hopes that I have somehow outgrown my food allergy. After eating a small bite of crab I felt nothing, could it really be! At the next opportunity, I fulfilled over years of seafood neglect, with a crab fest. Alaskan king crab legs dipped in clarified butter, Dungeness crab stir fried with chili sauce, deep fried soft shell crab, I had to try everything there was. Nothing beats experiencing the texture and sweetness of crab for the first time, and now I can partake in having greasy fingers and eating the ‘good stuff in life’.”

  • As a longtime follower of Carolyn’s writing, I am as excited as anyone to see her first cookbook come out. I want a copy of Carolyn’s book because it represents the evolutionary culmination of all her hard work up to this point. Plus, it doesn’t just present one chef’s character, but the character of a region which we love to call home. It will be a welcome, treasured addition to our selected cookbook set.

    Congrats on this fantastic achievement! I want to win your fabulous cookbook and give it to my son Jesse who recently moved from Seattle to San Francisco. He and his girlfriend are super busy with their career,s but their favorite ways to get together with friends are either cooking at home or exploring restaurants in the area as a number of them decamped from the Northwest at the same time. I know this beautiful book would be a huge hit with these 30 something tech innovators. Thanks so much!

  • I was so excited to see that you had this fabulous and beautiful cookbook out! I spent the past year getting to know the chef’s in my city of Nantes and writing about them. I find them fascinating…

    I do actually find that compiling a book like this is more than simply a collection of recipes, it really reflects the soul of a city, tells the story of a city through its food and new food traditions. I would love to read and cook from your book!

    Congratulations on the new book. I haven’t bought it yet, but of course, a signed copy would be wonderful. I would love to gift it to my foodie GF who has recently moved to the SF Bay Area. One of the things she likes to do, especially when we’ve enjoyed a really fine meal, is to replicate a signature dish at home. This way we get to relive a special occasion and of course enjoy more tasty food- because she’s a good cook!

    All of this is not good for my waist line 😛

  • December 14 was on my calendar for weeks–Carolyn’s book signing at Valley Fair. It was an event I had been looking forward to with much anticipation. The last time I saw Carolyn, on November 20th, at Bradley Ceynowa’s cooking demo, I told her I would be at her book signing.
    Well, on December 14th at 2 pm, it seemed that all of San Jose had descended on Valley Fair. Parking was nowhere to be found! Near the Macy’s men store, a policeman motioned me to stop to let dozens of shoppers pass in front of me. At a snail’s pace I continued on. Bright orange cones marked off usually accessible lanes. One impatient driver drove around me, narrowly missing my car. After an hour of unsuccessful attempts to find a parking place, I whispered a blessing to Carolyn, and drove home, disappointed, without a copy Carolyn’s wonderful cookbook.
