Finally Making Time for Sammies at B. On The Go

A chicken salad sandwich on house-made bread at B. On The Go.

I confess that my sweet tooth often rules my life.

Which is why it’s only now that I’ve finally made it to B. On The Go in San Francisco.

Typically, I’ll be so laser-focused on getting to its sister site, B. Patisserie to snag my favorite kouign-amanns that I forget everything else.

Not this time, though.

I finally made it into B. On The Go a couple weeks ago to buy two delicious sandwiches.

Just steps away from B. Patisserie.

Just order at the counter.

The sandwich shop is kitty-corner to the pastry shop. The light-filled corner spot offers soups, salads, and a few baked treats in addition to sandwiches, which are served on house-made bread, of course.

The Chicken Grec ($10.25) is a soft roll stuffed to the gills with big chunks of rotisserie Mary’s free-range chicken enveloped in a tangy herbed yogurt sauce, and garnished with tomato and red onion slices. This is one glorious chicken salad sandwich.

The porchetta sandwich.

The Porchetta ($10.75) comes on ciabatta. The rolled, herb-inflected, tender pork is sliced thinly and finished with chimichuri sauce and leaves of arugula. My husband would have preferred this as a hot sandwich. But I liken it to more picnic fare when it’s served cold like this.

OK, so I did make it to the patisserie, too.

I picked up a half dozen kouign-amanns, plus this Mini Me faux version. Yes, the most adorable of key chains.

How fun is this?

At $15, it’s a lot more expensive than the edible kind ($4.25). But it lasts longer, has no calories, and makes me giddy whenever I look at it. I’d say that’s money well spent.
