Italian Venchi Chocolates Debut Two New Flavors

Just in time for the start of the major holidays, Italian chocolate maker, Venchi, has added two new flavors to its popular line of individually wrapped Chocoviar bonbons.
This company has been in business since 1878, when founder Silviano Venchi bought two bronze cauldrons and started crafting chocolates to sell in his small shop in Turin when he was all of 20 years old.
Venchi has since expanded into gelato, too. It sports shops worldwide, including in New York, London, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, and Dubai. There’s even one at Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara.

I had a chance to try samples of the staple Chocoviar flavors, as well as the two new ones. Wrapped in foil, each one is enrobed in both a chocolate shell and either fine chocolate grains or toffee pieces.
First, the classic ones: The Stracciatella tastes of vanilla ice cream with its filling of vanilla cream and cocoa nibs. Finished with toffee crumbs, the Pistachio one may not have the most concentrated pistachio taste, only because the pistachio is combined with hazelnuts to create the paste filling, which gives it a rounder nutty taste. With a liquid salted caramel filling, the Creme Brulee definitely tastes more like caramel than actual creme brulee. Nevertheless, it’s delicious.
The Aranda combines my favorites of blood orange and dark chocolate for a hint of citrusy sweetness. The 75 Percent is for dark chocolate purists with its dense dark chocolate filling enclosed in more deep, dark chocolate. The Crema Cacao pairs a Piedmont hazelnut and cocoa filling with both milk chocolate and dark chocolate for the best of all worlds.

The two new flavors are: Lampone and Gianduia. The Lampone is layered with jammy raspberry coulis and a raspberry cream filling for a complex sweet that has a real zing from the fruit.
The Gianduia sports a smooth chocolate-hazelnut filling that is addicting for anyone who is a Nutella fan like me. In fact, this is my favorite of the bunch.
For added fun, Venchi has put together a flavor personality chart that describes what characteristics you possess based on your favorte Chocoviar flavor. For the Gianjuia, it states: “With an elegant and classic style, you love tradition and authenticity.” I won’t argue with that.
Venchi Chocoviar come in an 8-piece box for $20 on the Venchi site or on Amazon. Or at a Venchi chocolate-gelato store near you.
These would make a nice hostess gift during the holidays.
