After conquering the worlds of fine-dining with his Michelin-starred San Francisco restaurant Mister Jiu’s, fast-casual with his Mamahuhu eateries in San Francisco and Mill Valley, and cookbooks with his James Beard Award-winning “Mister Jiu’s in Chinatown” (Ten Speed Press, 2021), written with co-author Tienlon Ho, where does Chef Brandon Jew aim his sights next?

Frozen potstickers.

Yes, the James Beard Award-winning “Best Chef in California” in 2022 has just introduced a line of frozen potstickers with his Mamahuhu co-founders, Anmao Sun and Ben Moore.

I had a chance to try the potstickers, which come in two varieties: Pork & Purple Cabbage, and Tofu & Mushroom.

They come 10 to a package for $11.99. They can be shipped anywhere in California from the Mamahuhu site or delivered throughout the Bay Area via Doordash. Look for them to launch nationwide in January 2024.

These potstickers are daintier in size than ones at your average Chinese restaurant and more the dimension of a Japanese gyoza. They are packed with filling, and cook up wonderfully crispy in a skillet on the stovetop in about 10 minutes.

They are actually gluten-free, too, owing to the fact that the wrappers are made from rice and oat flour, which give them a slight chewy texture that’s delightful.

You can tell the quality of ingredients especially from the first bite of the Pork & Purple Cabbage potstickers. These are made with heritage pork from Klingeman Family Farms. They are very juicy, with a pronounced pork taste with ginger, chives, and sesame oil.

The Tofu & Mushroom potstickers are made with organic tofu from Hodo that’s creamy and mild tasting, and really lets the meaty shiitakes shine.

A serving of four potstickers have 240 to 250 calories (depending on the variety), 9 grams of fat, and 470mg of sodium.

Keep a stash in your freezer, and enjoy gourmet potstickers whenever the craving strikes.
