Kettle Chips That Make You Sit Up and Take Notice

You won't believe the incredible flavor of these chips.
You won’t believe the incredible flavor of these chips.

Crunch down on one of these thin, crispy kettle chips and you are in for a shock.

It tastes exactly like the juiciest and perfectly seasoned steak.

When I stopped in at Journeyman Meat Co. in Healdsburg recently to buy some of its very fine sausages, I also happened to pick up a bag of Snake River Farms Wagyu Beef Tallow Kettle Chips. Smart move of the store to put them right by the register.

These chips contain only three ingredients: Just Idaho potatoe fried in Wagyu beef tallow, then seasoned with Rocky Mountain salt.

And wow, are they something else.

Most of us have had duck fat-fried french fries. They are golden, and very rich tasting. But in all honestly, it’s not as if they necessarily taste like an actual plate of duck confit.

These Wagyu chips, on the other hand, taste uncannily like a richly marbled, seared slab of Wagyu beef sprinkled with sea salt. They have a full, deep taste that just lingers in your mouth, too.

I can’t remember how much I paid for this particular 1.5-ounce bag, but it typically retails for about $3.75.

Try a bag for yourself for a real treat.

One bag is equivalent to one serving, with 220 calories, 5 grams of saturated fat, 6 grams of monounsaturated fat, 15 milligrams of cholesterol, 180 milligrams of sodium, and 3 grams of protein.

These chips are so rich, though, that you’d be hard pressed to devour an entire bag in one sitting. Even my husband, aka Meat Boy, said that he could eat only a couple at a time. If you know him, you know that’s saying something.

  • Carolyn, one of these days you are going to be the death of me! “Potato chips” had me from the get-go. But chips that taste like beef? Man, oh man. Sourcing a bag as a special treat for my steak-loving grandson as we speak!!

  • Hi Carroll: These chips are just extraordinary! You first taste them and you just can’t believe how much they taste like an actual Wagyu steak. Hope you get your hands on some. They are worth seeking out. 😉
